What to expect

Fly fishing guide by day, Fly tying by night — and salmon fanatic always. That's me in a nutshell. I'm Magnús Haukur, an Icelandic fly fishing guide with a simple philosophy: long live the salmon. My sessions take place on Iceland's coastal flats and rivers, wading in search of sea trout and salmon with a fly rod in hand. From the photos you can see the kind of fish these waters produce — heavy, silver-flanked sea trout caught in stunning Icelandic settings, often with mountains and open sky stretching out behind you. I fish in all conditions, in all seasons. Freezing coastal flats in winter, calm river bends at golden hour in summer — Iceland's fishing is unlike anywhere else, and I know how to make the most of every session regardless of what the weather throws at us. When tying flies I make patterns built specifically for Icelandic conditions. When you're out with me, every detail is thought through.
