Far's story

I'm Bergur Birgisson, a fishing guide and trip organizer based in Hella, Iceland, where I run Far Away Fishing Adventures. With over 1,300 posts and years of guiding experience behind me, Iceland's wild rivers and landscapes are my home water, and sharing them with visiting anglers is what I love most. My specialty is fly fishing for trophy brown trout in the stunning highland rivers of Iceland. The fish here are something truly special, beautifully colored, powerful, and wild. Watching a guest land their first Icelandic brown trout never gets old for me. I guide all kinds of anglers, from seasoned fly fishers chasing a personal best to complete beginners stepping into waders for the first time. The experience goes beyond just fishing. Out here, you're surrounded by volcanic landscapes, open skies and a silence you won't find anywhere else. As a partner guide with Fishpartner, I also help organise full fishing trips to Iceland, taking care of everything so you can focus entirely on the fishing.
